Hydro Connect Festival’s lineup gets better…

Source: theregoesthefear.com

Hydro Connect Festival LogoI always said that There Goes The Fear wouldn’t be another festival news site, sticking with gigs and tours. However, one festival has caught my eye for the second year running… the Hydro Connect Festival.

In rural Scotland, it has a simply amazing lineup over the last weekend in August, with all the bands below playing… which is pretty much a who’s who of my favourite bands. Now, if they just added Delays I’d be happy!!

Just look at this lineup…

Franz Ferdinand
Kasabian
Bloc Party
Sigur Ros
Manic Street Preachers,
Conor Oberst & The Mystic Valley Band,
Elbow,
Gossip,
Spiritualized,
Mercury Rev,
The Coral (acoustic),
Paolo Nutini,
Asobi Seksu,
Gomez,
The Young Knives,
Passenger

How immense is that? Precisly. Looks like one of the best festivals this year, quite honestly.

If I were you, come payday on Friday I’d get a weekend ticket, which are priced £120 and weekend tickets with camping are £140. To buy, log onto their website or call Ticketmaster on 08444 999 990

Lodestar festival cancelled

Source: theregoesthefear.com

Lodestar logoThis year’s Lodestar festival has been cancelled.

It seems that like so many festivals they have been plagued by weather problems, and thus has fallen behind with the organisation.

The three day event on the first weekend of September (August 31st - September 2nd) was set to include Badly Drawn Boy, Maps, Idlewild, Pigeon Detectives and The Rakes amongst others.

The word is that the first Lodestar festival may well be held next Summer.

Live: Aerosmith at Hyde Park Calling review

Source: theregoesthefear.com

This post was originally posted over at Londonist.

Aerosmith @ Hyde Park CallingNobody would have guessed that Stephen Tyler is a mere 59 years old judging by his performance at last night’s Hyde Park Calling finale with Aerosmith headlining a day of stellar bands. Strutting around the stage like only he can, Tyler had the audience in the palm of his hand from the opener “Love in an Elevator”.

Whilst Aerosmith undoubtedly stole the show, Hyde Park Calling was a three stage festival which showcases the best in current rock. London band Haunts played the packed out third stage, slowly warming up the crowds with their unique brand of danceable rock, akin to a lighter Biffy Clyro. Closing with “Live Fast, Die Young” they had everyone moving, and are surely ones to watch in the future for those with heavier tastes.

After them Brigade managed to entertain sufficiently the sizeable crowd on the third stage with their Placebo / Muse / Oceansize / My Vitriol style mixture of rock. Over on the main stage The Answer put in a performance of their lives, playing to their biggest audience yet and winning over a sizeable part, with massive “Answer” branded balloons bouncing along the audience. Fans of Led Zeppelin, Free or The Who should make sure they catch them – as they themselves said “We may be Irish, but we love London, so we’re around a lot”.

Chris Cornell @ Hyde Park CallingJet were next on the main stage, putting in a decidedly average performance – their (few) hits sounded tired and jaded, and new material never goes down well at festivals. During Jet’s set the heavens opened, soaking everyone, leading to chants of “Get your brolly down” (and alternatives) from people further back when former Audioslave star Chris Cornell came on for his second-on-the-bill slot. Unafraid of the rain, he commented how it was just like being at home for him. Highlight of his varied set which mixed both his own solo material and Audioslave material was probably his most recent song, “You Know My Name”, title song for the recent Bond film.

Finally the stars arrived, 15 minutes late, and bounded through a greatest hits set that highlighted their long and varied career. “I don’t want to miss a thing” was thrown in early, much to the appreciation of the crowd, drowning out Steven Tyler. Prancing around the stage like he has done for the last 30 years, they really were not showing their age other than their short “Deckchair set” which saw Tyler and guitarist Joe Perry at the end of the catwalk sat in (some rather comfy looking) deckchairs.

Climaxing with a fantastic performance of “Walk This Way” with Run DMC (yes, THE Run DMC), Aerosmith were gone from London for another few years. Past their prime? Unlikely – they’re just as good as they have ever been.

After the jump: more photos and the setlist.

Hyde Park Calling / Sunday 24th June 2007 / London, England. Aerosmith played:
Love In An Elevator
Same Old Song and Dance
Cryin’
Eat The Rich
I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing
Jaded
Baby Please Don’t Go
Hangman Jury/Seasons Of Wither
Dream On
Livin’ On The Edge
Stop Messin’ Around
Sweet Emotion
Draw The Line

Bands to keep a watch out for in the future: #9: Scouting for Girls

Source: theregoesthefear.com

Scouting For Girls Having won the Innocent Unsigned bands talent search last year and the chance to play at their Fruitstock Festival, Londoners Scouting For Girls have had an amazing year. Signing to Epic Records on Valentine’s Day this year, they’re about to release their first EP, the incredibly anthemic “It’s Not About You” which will just grab you by the heart strings and make you think “YES!” and become addicted to them. Or you can just write them off as another bunch of Keane wannabes. You choose, but you know what I think.

Scouting For Girls are the sort of band that are perfect to open the festivals – people lounging around, feeling rough after the previous night, and just wanting some music to take them to “that happy place”. As they say themselves in their biography, they’re “unashamedly nostalgic, mottled with loss, disillusion and a poignant lamentation for innocent past times”.

Many bloggers have been very excited about their current material, with favourable reports emerging about their live shows. Needless to say, for those of you fortunate enough to be going to Glastonbury this weekend (and if so, why aren’t you there already?), they’ll be playing on Friday night at 8pm at the Late N Live Stage.

Reminiscent of both Keane (for their Piano-led pop-rock) and Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly (for Sam Duckworth’s brilliant knack of conveying feelings and images of a time and place), Scouting For Girls are sure to gain a devoted following soon.

After the jump, catch their video for “It’s Not About You”. Picture was taken from Scouting For Girls’ MySpace.

Ticket alert: Enter Shikari and Snow Patrol festival

Source: theregoesthefear.com

Enter ShikariTwo final announcements for this weeks on sales at Friday, 9am.

Enter Shikari have announced that they’ll play Brixton Academy, which they’ll surely sell out and have to add more dates for. They were only the second unsigned band to sell out the Astoria, so surely they’ll sell out Brixton now that they’ll have an album out too?

Secondly, those Irish bedwetters Snow Patrol have announced their own, one off festival in Ward Park Playing Fields, Bangor, County Down in Northern Ireland, which was where Gary Lightbody and Jonny Quinn grew up. They’ll be supported by Ash, The Dead 60’s, Simply Kid, Kowalski and finally We Are Scientists. Sounds like a fab festival. Oh, except Snow Patrol are headlining. Oh well, can’t have it all.

Ticket alert: White Stripes

Source: theregoesthefear.com

White StripesAs many people are aware, The White Stripes are headlining the first night of the O2 Wireless Festival in london on Thursday night next week, and then Leeds on the Friday night. However, as a warm up for this they announced today that they’ll also be playing a one off date in London on Tuesday night at the Rivoli Ballroom as a warm up.

Profits from the performance will go to the Chelsea Pensioners’ Appeal and The London Pearly Kings And Queens Society.

Tickets go on sale on Monday morning at 10am reportedly from see tickets and livenation outlets.
