Weekend in Chicago …

This weekend I was in Chicago for the Matthew Dear (Audion) show at the Sonotheque. Check out the photo’s and mini-review of the gig on Pitchfork here. It was a fantastic show, the club was top notch as well as the people who showed up. Totally worthy of another of a plug for everyone to come see him DJ at Foundation on 3.16. This is the techno music that will make indie kids dance, I promise. The pic’s from Pitchfork were shot by Steve, whom I met at the show. He’s a really cool dude who writes for Little White Earbuds out of Chicago (check out his site for some great mp3’s). NewCity Chicago posted an interivew where Matthew talks about the direction he will be taking his sound:
Early this summer, he will release a highly anticipated artist album as Matthew Dear, featuring his signature experimental-pop music and his talents on several instruments. Dear explains, “It’s what I’ve learned from producing techno music and electronic music, but I’m applying those techniques to recording guitars and bass and drums… doing more repetitive, loop-based rock music.” Dear will sing with a live band to promote this album in the fall, and these shows will likely happen at more traditional stage venues than at dance clubs. He will continually release Audion singles throughout the year, and has mid-summer plans to release a new single as False on the Minus label.
