Damien Rice Tickets - Alternative and Indie

“Irish singer and songwriter Damien Rice grew up in the countryside of Celbridge, County Kildare.  Damien Rice moved to Tuscany in March 99.  Writing music and painting were Damien’s passion. During 1996 & 1997 Damien was determined to put a band together as well and in 1997 the heavy, indie-rock sounds of Juniper were signed to Polygram in 1997 and “”The World Is Dead”" and “”Weathermen”" played well on Irish radio.  When it came time to recording a full-length album, contractual rules from the label prevented Juniper from doing so, so Rice split. Damien travelled around Europe around this time, busking the streets. He arrived back to Dublin a year later, recorded his demo and sent it off to renowned producer and film composer, David Arnold (Bjork, James Bond). Arnold liked what he heard and provided enough money for Damien to buy his own mobile studio.  His first single, “”The Blower’s Daughter’, was an instant top 20 hit when it appeared in fall 2001. Shared gigs with McAlmont & Butler and folkie Kathryn Williams followed in summer 2002 when Rice released O in the UK.”

In September 2001 Damien released The Blowers Daughter, in Ireland, the first single to be taken from the, as yet unfinished, album. The single went top 20 and was used for the 2004 film Closer. His ensuing tour was also a resounding success.

His first album O was released on February 1 2002 and was eagerly lapped up by critics and audiences alike. A major six-week tour of Ireland followed along with dates in the UK, Germany, France and Spain. Damien was nominated for Meteor Irish Music Awards and a BBC Hot Press Rock Award. O has since achieved platinum status in Ireland. In the UK, constant gigging, festival appearances at Glastonbury, V2002, Edinburgh Fringe, plus supports with McAlmont and Butler, Counting Crows and Kathryn Williams, have all helped establish Damien as a must see live act.

Damien has recently appeared as guest on Later With Jools Holland! alongside Moby, Badly Drawn Boy and The Sugababes.

Damien Rice is a dynamic singer with an alternative sound.  Don’t miss your chance to see a true master LIVE!!

Jeff Tweedy at the Paramount Theatre - the marquee

Last night, Jeff Tweedy played a wonderful closer to his solo tour at the Paramount Theater in Charlottesville, Virginia. Hopefully some of you were able to catch the webcast I mentioned earlier.

Jeff started the set with an intimate non-PA “Someone Else’s Song.” Hearing “Spiders” was great as well, the acoustic version is a wonderful arrangement. Fortunately, we were also able to hear a couple tracks from the upcoming Sky Blue Sky, “Be Patient With Me” and “What Light.” Both songs sounded good, although the incredible acoustics of the Paramount probably contributed to that greatly.

The crowd was interesting, as Jeff pointed out, “too polite.” Jeff loves to engage the audience in settings like this and the Charlottesville crowd was really quiet. Jeff Leopard brought out a little rock from a previous show. Apparently in Texas a woman loudly asked whom he was, to which Jeff replied, “I’m Jeff Leopard.” Someone decided it would be a good idea to bring Jeff a tee shirt with Jeff Leopard on it. Most of the Jeff banter was pretty amusing and he seemed in pretty great spirits all evening.

It’s hard to pinpoint more song highlights: “Chinese Apple,” “Cars Can’t Escape,” and “New Madrid” certainly didn’t hurt. One of my personal highlights was the sequence of “Black Eye” followed by “One by One.” These are two of my favorite songs to hear Jeff play acoustic and hearing them back-to-back was moving.

The second encore was incredible. “California Stars” is another personal favorite of mine and Jeff’s arrangement of “I’m the Man Who Loves You” was fantastic. He picked up the pace and changed the guitar part, giving the song a great new face.

“Going out like he came in” Jeff stepped away from the mic to play Tupelo favorite “Acuff-Rose,” sending us out on a wonderful note of what concerts would be like should we lose all technology…not to mention the non-existence of the webcast (thanks Ken and Stan).
