Favorite Shows of 2006

Source: morecowbell.net

I figured i’d finish off my year end lists (Favorite Songs list to follow).

I didn’t see quite as many shows in 2006 as the last 3-4 years, but compared to a normal person (ie: not crazy/insane), 80+ shows is still a lot ;) .

Anywho, thinking back, these are my favorite/most enjoyable/memorable shows of 2006 (i’m sure some will slip my mind, so i’ll update as i recall them). Other than the first few, they’re not in any real discernable order:

Sonic Youth & The Flaming Lips – Minnesota State Fair
M. Ward – Varsity Theater
James Hunter – Varsity Theater
Neko Case – First Ave
The Hold Steady – First Ave (Night 1)
Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy – Roadrunner Records In-Store
Destroyer / Magnolia Electric Co. / William Elliott Whitmore – 400 Bar
Lucero & William Elliott Whitmore – The Aquarium (Fargo, ND)
P.O.S. – CD Release Party @ Entry
Brian Setzer & The Nashvillians – Lee’s Liquor Lounge
Secret Machines – In The Round @ First Ave
Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young – Xcel Energy Center
Anthrax (Classic Lineup) – First Ave
Voxtrot / Tapes N’ Tapes – Entry (much better than when Voxtrot came back a couple months later and played to approximately 25-30 people at the Triple Rock :( )
Joanna Newsome – 400 Bar (Late Show)
Imogen Heap – Varsity Theater
Lucero – Triple Rock (April show)
Raconteurs / Kelley Stoltz – First Ave
Sunset Rubdown – The Aquarium (Fargo, ND)
The Mountain Goats – Triple Rock
Hot Chip – First Ave
David Ford – Electric Fetus In-Store
Joseph Arthur – Fine Line
TV On The Radio – First Ave
Pearl Jam – United Center (Chicago, IL – Night 1)
Bob Dylan – Xcel
Gnarls Barkley / Peeping Tom – First Ave
Joan Jett / Eagles of Death Metal – First Ave
The Black Angels – 7th Street Entry (not the most recent one, i think this one was in Feb)
Eagles of Death Metal – Ascot Room
Silversun Pickups – Entry (Novemer show was better than the August one)
Band of Horses – Fine Line (a bit stronger showing than the earlier Entry gig)

K-Os Spring Tour… featuring Minneapolis’ finest

Source: morecowbell.net

One of More Cowbell’s favorite rap/hip hop artists, Canadian’s K-Os, will be touring in support of his great new record, ‘Atlantis‘, which is out now in Canada, and will be released Worldwide on February 6th, 2007. ‘Atlantis‘ features a guest spot from 2 members of Broken Social Scene as well. K-Os’ last album, ‘Joyful Rebellion‘ is one of my favorite hip hop albums of the last few years.

As if that wasn’t enough, Minneapolis’ own P.O.S. (who’s latest record, ‘Audition‘, was #1 on our local albums of the year) is on board for the tour, along with Gym Class Heroes, a really solid live hip hop act out of Syracuse, NY, and So-Cal rock band, RX Bandits.
